Internship Site Description:
Patterson Park Public Charter School, Baltimore City
Every morning the students of PPPCS start their day with a school wide morning announcement. The bounding voice of Dr. Chad Kramer, the school principal, comes across the speakers.
"GOOD MORNING PATTERSON PARK PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL!"
After the text-book middle school eye rolls, the students stand to recite the Pledge of Allegiance along with a chorus of tiny kindergarten voices played on the speaker that recite along with the principal. Then the students all say the school pledge.
"I choose to be terrific, I am trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and a good citizen of this school!"
Everything that the students do at Patterson Park Public Charter School, they mean, because they know they are fortunate to be where they are. I too have been fortunate to have my internship experience at such an institution.
An institution founded on achieving excellence - from the ground up, and in every aspect of its existence.

Maryland State Assessment Results:
For me Patterson Park Public Charter School has been my first teaching family. From the very first day I was treated as a true team member of the Middle School, only with the occasional intern joke. I was included in all staff training events, professional developments, and student meetings. Specifically, I have been working in a Language Arts technology integrated classroom with SMART Board, class set laptop access with wireless internet, document camera, and a plethora of other resources. More importantly, I have been working with two 7th grade classes of 22 students each, separated by test scores, and one lower level 8th grade class of 23 students. I work closely with seven students with IEPs and five students who are English Language Learners. My co-teacher Mrs. Jenna Shaw is truly a model teacher and has been an invaluable resource and guide in my journey over the past year. She has let me succeed and she has let me fail so that I could learn the elements of teaching for myself. I hope that I can live up to the model she has set for me. |
